Dear Parents,
I want to extend a sincere heartfelt thank you to everyone for their trust in and support for me during my first year as principal. I am blessed to be a part of such a supportive community and parish, especially with how we have all come together during the transition of building our new church. There is no doubt that we are “Stronger Together!” I am incredibly grateful for our amazing teachers and staff. Their endless hours of planning, teaching, caring, and loving our students have indeed prepared each student for the next step in their academic journey.

Congratulations to our eighth-graders who graduated this Wednesday! It was wonderful to gather together as a community to celebrate these incredible young men and women as they enter the next phase of their journey with Christ. Our prayer is that they will continue to serve God and God’s people, and will always remember the core values instilled in them at home and at St. John Bosco Catholic School.

Our eighth-grade students celebrated their final Saint John Bosco Catholic School Mass today along with their consecration to Mary. It was a beautiful and fitting end to their SJB career. At the end of the day, the entire student body lined a pathway throughout our courtyard and cheered while parents gathered for our traditional “clap-out.” It was a grand send-off for the eighth graders who exited our front school gates for the final time as SJB students.

Thank you all for your kindness and generosity in celebrating “Teacher Appreciation Week.” We are very grateful for the outpouring of sentiments, gifts, food, and flowers to teachers and staff alike. And the students thoroughly charmed us with handwritten artwork and note cards. We are truly blessed to have such an incredible school community. Special thanks to PTO and all of our generous parents for providing delicious treats and lunches for our faculty and staff this week!

As a Catholic school, we have the pleasure of welcoming our students into the greater faith community by providing them with sacramental preparation in our classrooms. This formation will culminate at the First Communion and Confirmation Mass this Saturday, April 30 at St. Benedict Catholic Church and Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Please join me in congratulating these students on receiving these two sacraments of initiation.

I hope you enjoyed the Easter weekend with your loved ones. It is a time for new beginnings, reflection, and renewal in both hope and faith.
In the spirit of new beginnings, this Wednesday Father James and I hosted our first annual Pastor & Principal Dinner where we personally acknowledged each upcoming graduate and thanked their parents for their unwavering love and support for St. John Bosco. It was a beautiful evening under the stars with an Italian-themed dinner to honor our patron saints John Bosco and Benedict. Each eighth-grader was presented with an SJB Alumni pin to remind them that SJB is where their academic career began and where they may always call home.

As we celebrate Palm Sunday, we prepare for Holy Week and the solemn events leading up to our Lord's crucifixion on Good Friday and glorious resurrection on Easter Sunday. As a Catholic school, our teachers have the distinct privilege of structuring assignments, retreats, and activities to reflect the paschal mystery throughout the season of Lent.

Today we concluded a busy week of ITBS testing. Thank you all for your support and generous donations of healthy snacks to nourish the students as they worked hard on each section of the Iowa tests.
I can’t believe we are halfway through our 3rd trimester! Kindergarten through 8th-grade parents will be emailed their child’s progress report this evening. As always, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns.

My, oh my, what a wonderful Monday it was! We began our day as usual — gathering as a community for pledge, prayer, announcements, and rosary. But this Monday was extra special because we had three new staff members. Miss Sadie Seidel was Principal for the Day, Miss Hailey Rios was Librarian for the Day, and Miss Ayjae Larson was P.E. Teacher for the Day. They all began their day with many duties, lessons, classroom visits, and special projects that Ms. Harvey, Mr. Caradonna, and I perform on a daily basis. It was quite a treat for these students to experience some behind-the-scenes activities such as eating lunch all together in the faculty/staff lounge.

It was wonderful to see everyone back on campus this week! It was very quiet during Spring Break as the security crew installed over 30 new security cameras. This enhancement was funded by proceeds from this year's Running with Rosco event hosted by Cindy Casaus and our fabulous PTO, as well as the “Together Let Us Go Forth” Diocesan Capital Campaign.

The students had fun celebrating the joy of readin this week and, of course, adorning their school uniforms with Dr. Seuss apparel. Hopefully, you will notice an uptick in your child’s reading enjoyment as they discover the power of books to transport and/or inform their inquisitive minds.

What a fabulous week! How exciting it was to see our entire community participate in the various activities of Catholic Schools Week!
So many people are responsible for the smooth operation of the week’s festivities. We are truly grateful to our devoted SJB families and faculty/staff for their generous gifts of time and effort to make this week memorable for the students. The display of teamwork from teachers, staff, parents, and students throughout the week is what makes St. John Bosco more than a school; it makes us a community.
