11-01-2024Notes from the PrincipalMrs. Jamie Bescak

Dear Parents,

As we mark the conclusion of the 1st trimester we are excited to remind you that our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences are just around the corner. Kindly refer to the schedule in the Bulldog Bite & grade level newsletters to secure your conference spot.

I would like to inform you of a change regarding the academic honors recognition at St. John Bosco Catholic School. Moving forward, 1st and 2nd honors will now be awarded only to our 7th- and 8th-grade students. After careful consideration, we believe this shift allows us to better focus on the developmental stages of all our students:

  1. Encouraging Personal Growth: In the younger grades, we emphasize fostering a love of learning and personal growth over formal recognition.
  2. Developmental Differences: As students mature, their understanding of academic responsibility and self-awareness evolves. The honors system for 7th and 8th graders is designed to reflect this increased maturity and readiness for the heightened expectations of high school.
  3. Balanced Academic Focus: Recognizing the achievements of our junior high students helps them develop as effective communicators and self-aware individuals, aligning with our School-Wide Learning Expectations (SLEs). We want to guide students to work at their individual level, without the pressure of external awards in the younger grades.

We are confident that this change will help our students continue to thrive both academically and personally. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to provide the best educational experience for your children.
