March 3

03-03-2023Notes from the PrincipalMrs. Jamie Bescak

Dear Parents,

I am so incredibly proud to announce that 7th grader Sophia Bernardez won 1st place in the Diocesean Science Fair with her project entitled “Mighty Tiny Masked Heros—MealWorms and Face Masks.” Sophia will now move on to the Arizona Science and Engineering Fair on March 30th. This is an opportunity for Sophia to showcase her amazing work, compete for thousands of dollars in prizes, and the opportunity to move on to the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair (RISEF). Please join me in praying for her success as she represents the Diocese of Phoenix Catholic Schools.

I am also excited to announce — for the first time ever —we have a team of students competing virtually in the National Catholic Academic Jr. High Decathlon this Saturday. This is a one-day competition for Catholic school students in grades 6–8 to show their knowledge in fine arts, science, math, literature, and more. Please add these students to your prayer list for their success in this inaugural competition: 6th grader Jorge Rodriguez; 7th graders Sophia Bernadez, Celine Salloum, Theresa Gove, and Harmony Rodriguez.

The entire student body had fun celebrating the joy of reading this week and, of course, adorning their school uniforms with Dr. Seuss apparel. Hopefully, you will notice an uptick in your child’s reading enjoyment as they discover the power of books to transport and/or inform their inquisitive minds. Thank you to Mrs. Sandra Heffron and Ms. LJ Curley for organizing such a wonderful week of reading activities for our entire school. And thank you to ALL of our fabulous teachers for their effort in participating in this week-long event with relevant lesson planning and promoting the joy of reading to our students.

Thank you to all who have filled out the Parent Survey! If you have not had a chance, there's still time. We truly value honest feedback from parents, faculty, staff, and students regarding their experience at St. John Bosco, so I kindly ask all parents to take a few minutes to fill out the Parent Survey by March 10th.

Lastly, it’s hard to believe that spring break is upon us. Spring break extends from Friday, March 10 through Friday, March 17. Teachers will partake in a Diocesan In-Service on Friday, March 10. School will resume Monday, March 20. The next Bulldog Bite and teachers' newsletters will be emailed on March 24. Wishing you all a safe and refreshing spring break!
