  • Intro Activity (3-5 Minutes)
  • Fitness Development (10-12 minutes)
  • Lesson Focus (20-25 minutes)
  • Game (10-12 minutes)

Physical Education Discipline Cycle

Discipline Cycle

1- Student will be given opportunity to self-correct, which can include a verbal or visual cue to help the student get back on task.

2- Face-to-face discussion. Student will removed from activity and placed in a time-out area. Inside this would mean sitting on the purple line, or at the chapel doors. Outside this would mean sitting on the wall and standing near teacher depending on where the class is being held. (field, court, etc..) At a natural break in instruction teacher will have conversation away from the earshot of others, with student regarding behaviors that have brought him/her to this consequence. This will include a reminder, and a prompt to help student recognize behaviors that are not appropriate at the time and ways to correct this behavior. At this time if student exhibits behavior and attitude that shows he/she is ready to return to the activity, he/she will be invited to rejoin.

3- Documentation. Steps 1 and 2 have been exhausted and inappropriate actions persist, there will be a written assignment given to student. The student will be asked to describe what happened, why it’s not appropriate, who it affected self, teacher, and class, DWP skill that would help, and action student will take in future. This will be due at the beginning of the next PE class.

**Grades K-1 will be permitted to draw this assignment and verbally discuss it with me when turning in the assignment.

Parents will be notified of assignment via email.

4- Ongoing misbehavior of the same type will prompt correspondence with parent and/or administration, and/or homeroom teacher, and /or an office referral, STP, boo hoo blue, and/or detention. If we reach step 4 it may be necessary to have a conference with parents. Persistent misbehavior in PE class could result in removal from athletic teams and/or game suspension.

5- Removal from class, sent to office, where all school discipline policies will begin.

**It is possible to skip steps and repeat steps.

Grading Rubric Grades 5-8 The grading rubric for physical education will consist of 3 areas for grading.
