Mrs. Larsen in a Nutshell!
Hello! My name is Tina Larsen. I am so excited to be one of the First Grade Teachers at Saint John Bosco! Many of you know me or have seen me around campus, or you know one of my three sons, Daniel (7th), Patrick (6th) and Thomas (2nd). For those of you who don't know me, I look forward to getting to know you and your children throughout the school year.
I was born in Redondo Beach, California and lived my entire childhood in Torrance, California. After graduating from North Torrance High School , I attended San Diego State University where I earned my BA in Liberal Studies, along with my Teaching Credential. I continued my education by earning my Master's degree in Teaching English to Students of Other Languages, and have taken 30+ credits since then to enhance my teaching skills. Prior to having my three sons, I taught for four years in San Diego, at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School. During that time I taught third, fourth and fifth grades. Upon moving to Phoenix three years ago, I started substitute teaching here at SJB. In conjunction with substitute teaching, I taught ESL classes at Scottsdale Community College and a reading class at Chandler/Gilbert Community College. I am thrilled to be here at SJB!
First grade is all about Language Arts. I will build a strong foundation in reading, phonics, spelling, writing and grammar, as well as math. I will create a fun, friendly and safe environment where your child will be comfortable and stimulated to learn. In addition to our religion curriculum and Mass once a week, I will instill Christian values as a way of life. It is my hope that your child will love life, love school and love God for giving us life and the many other great gifts that we share.
Communication between parents and teacher is crucial. You may get in touch with me via email or by calling the front desk at 480-219-4850 ext. 1017 and leaving a message. Email is truly the best way to communicate these days. Every week I will update my newsletter on the SJB web-site to catch you up on what we are doing in class, as well as any upcoming events. We are going to have a fantastic year!
