Mrs. Guthrie's 7th & 8th Grade English Class
Mission: The Literature and Language Arts Curriculum is designed to develop effective communicators who will function as informed, moral decision-makers, and active participating citizens in society. The purpose of all instruction is aimed at producing literate, fluent, and life-long readers, writers, listeners, and speakers. A component of the middle school program exposes students to a variety of literary genres and authors.
Goals and Objectives: 7th and 8th grade students will understand the following Literature principles:
1. Use of comprehension skills to analyze the elements of literature.
2. Selects appropriate study skills to increase knowledge.
3. Uses new information to adjust and extend personal knowledge base.
4. Gathers meaning from poetic literary devices.
Goals and Objectives: 7th and 8th grade students will understand the following Language Arts principles:
1. Generates and enhances own writing and produces a wide variety of types of writing.
2 Uses standard writing mechanics with accuracy and fluency.
3. Understands and uses the Six Traits of Writing as a process while writing across the curriculum.
4. Applies critical thinking skills when planning, composing, editing, and sharing own writing.
5. Makes real life connections that engage and motivate learning.
