In order to maintain this placement rate, St. John Bosco Catholic School works to stay at the forefront of education by incorporating technology, foreign language, music and art programs into curriculum for students as young as Pre-K. Our classrooms are equipped with SmartBoards, and the school has a media center and student computer lab. We also have two mobile carts with iPads to advance 21st century learning skills. For our younger grades, hard-wired laptops in each classroom provide opportunity for technology integration in student learning.
What is most important is your child receives what he or she needs to advance and be challenged through their years. According to the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills, administered in all Catholic schools in the nation, St. John Bosco students, on average, are reading two and three grades higher than 8th grade by the time they graduate. According to the criteria for Blue Ribbon School Award, St. John Bosco School scores place us in the top 15% of the schools in the nation. Approximately one-third of the students between grade 2 and 8 test gifted in at least one area of their academic areas. Students with these gifted areas are supported with a variety of strategies including Accelerated Reader and Math programs, and project based learning. The school employs both a literacy and math coach who work with both our advanced learners as well as those who need extra attention at their own individual pace to help each student reach their maximum potential.
